ARTISTIC STATEMENT
In the field of dance, I can’t sum up who I am as an artist, but I’m always finding ways to keep my two passions, performance, and choreography, consistently evolving.
As a PERFORMER what makes me the most content is when I’m sharing work with my full being. I’m inspired by the worlds of musical theater, jazz, and contemporary but I strive for versatility and will step into any role as a dancer. What makes performing so dynamic for me is how different it can be each time. Stepping into new characters or sharing myself as an artist while in the rehearsal process or onstage is something that makes me want to keep sharing this art form.
As a CHOREOGRPAHER, I’m driven by storytelling and finding ways my work can reach my dancers and the audience. Whether I’m choreographing on myself or a group of dancers, big or small, my work is moved by the artists that are involved in the process and the ways that I can use them as inspiration to help build a story. I like to build worlds where the music can live in and enhance the story I'm telling and where vintage aesthetics can serve as inspiration in the process. I love getting into the work and seeing the endless possibilities that could come with the choreographic state which is always a means of collaboration with the artists, music, and story I’m creating.
What drives me as a dance artist is the infinite ways of storytelling that exist within the multitudes of dance. To me, art can be whatever you make, and I feel like I sit within the complexity of that. Through performance and choreography, I’m always finding new ways to emote different stories for the audience to witness. There is not one genre that I’m stuck with, but I’m drawn to incorporating versatility into any work I’m a part of in order to create art that I’m never bored with. The feeling of passion and pure joy is what fuels me most when choreographing or performing and it makes me show how much this art form means to me.
